On a sunny morning in Abuja, the heart of Nigeria, the Pakistan High Commission buzzed with activity. It was the day of Eid Ul Adha, one of the most significant celebrations in the Islamic calendar. The Pakistan House grounds were transformed into a vibrant scene of festivity, bringing together the Pakistani community and their Nigerian friends.
The event began with the melodious call to prayer, echoing through the air and inviting everyone to join in the communal prayers. Men, women, and children, dressed in their finest traditional attire, gathered on the lush green lawns. The men wore crisp white shalwar kameez, and the women donned colorful, embroidered dresses with matching headscarves. The children, excited and slightly restless, added to the lively atmosphere.
The High Commissioner, Major General (Rtd) Sohail Ahmad Khan, a gracious host with a warm smile, welcomed the guests. He spoke about the importance of Eid Ul Adha, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command. His words resonated with the values of sacrifice, devotion, and charity that the festival embodies.
After the prayers, it was time for the much-anticipated feast. Long tables laden with traditional Pakistani dishes awaited the guests. The aroma of biryani, kebabs, and freshly baked naan bread wafted through the air, mingling with the sweet scent of roses from the garden, sharing laughter and stories as they enjoyed the delicious food.
Children gathered around a special corner where volunteers from the High Commission had organized fun activities.
